Born in 1958 in Tokyo, Mieko Harda, after training in singing and acting with producer Tatsumi Ichikawa, started her career at the tender age of 15. She soon got noticed in two somber dramas, "Daichi no komoriuta" (Lullaby of the Earth) directed by'Yasuzo Masumura' (1976) in which she was very impressive as the orphan who descends into hell and "Seishun no satsujin sha" (The Youth Killer) helmed by 'Kazuhiko Hasegawa (I)' (qv) as the killer's fiancée. She is also well-known internationally thanks to two masterpieces by the great 'Akira Kurosawa' (qv), "Ran" in which she embodied Lady Kaede (1985) and "Dreams" where she was a weird Snow Fairy (1990). She also provided the voice for Kaguya in the 2002 anime film "Inu Yasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking-glass"
